Operational Policies

Library

Hours of Operation: Monday-Friday: 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM

A hall pass is required for students accessing the library during class time. Please obtain a pass from your teacher before coming to the library. During non-class times, such as study hall, lunch, or free periods, no pass is needed to visit the library.

Scheduling Policy for Classes:

  1. Fixed Schedule: The library will be available to specific classes on set days and times throughout the school year. Teachers will be assigned fixed library time based on grade level and subject needs.

  2. Session Length: Each class will have a fixed 45-minute session. Additional time may be requested for special projects with prior approval.

  3. Priority: Classes that require library resources for research, projects, or curriculum-based activities will have priority.

  4. Cancellations/Rescheduling: If a class cannot attend their scheduled library time, teachers must notify the librarian as soon as possible. Rescheduling will depend on availability.

This fixed schedule ensures that all classes have fair access to the library and its resources, helping maintain an organized and consistent library usage plan throughout the year.

Circulation Policy:

  1. Checkout Period: Books, hand-held audiobooks, and magazines can be checked out for 3 weeks.

  2. Checkout Limit: Students can check out up to 5 items at a time, including books, hand-held audiobooks, and magazines.

  3. Renewals: You can renew items for another 2 weeks if no one else has a hold on them.

  4. Late Returns: If an item is overdue, please return it as soon as possible. After a week, we’ll send a reminder to your school email.

  5. Holds: If something you want is checked out, you can place a hold, and we’ll let you know when it’s available.

Fines policy:

1. Overdue Items: There is a minor fine of $1.00 for items returned after the 3-week checkout period. However, there is a 7-day grace period where no fine will be charged, giving you extra time to return items without penalty.

2. Lost or Damaged Items If an item is lost or damaged, we ask that you let us know as soon as possible. We’ll work with you to find a solution and ensure no fines are charged.

3. Grace Period: You will receive a reminder after the item is overdue, and you have 7 additional days to return it before the fine is applied.

Teacher Policy:

  1. Library Access: Teachers may check out books, audiobooks, and other materials for extended periods to support classroom lessons or projects. (4-6 weeks depending on the specific needs of their lessons or projects. If more time is required, teachers can request additional extensions.)

  2. Resource Requests: If you need specific resources or materials, feel free to request them. The librarian will do their best to accommodate your needs.

  3. Technology Use: Teachers are welcome to use the library’s computers and Chromebook carts for lessons. Assistance with setup or navigating resources is available upon request.

  4. Collaborative Support: The librarian is available to collaborate on integrating library resources into lessons, assisting with research projects, and supporting classroom activities.

  5. Late Returns: Please return materials on time to ensure availability for other teachers and students. If more time is needed, simply inform the librarian.

Library Chromebook and TV Usage Policy:
